To celebrate Valentine’s Day, I was invited to the Louis Vuitton store at Berlin’s KaDeWe as a live illustrator. As part of an exclusive customer engagement event, visitors could have their portraits drawn alongside their partners or commission a hand-drawn illustration as a personal gift for a loved one. The event was all about special encounters and personal memories.

In keeping with the Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collection at the time, the customer engagement campaign began with an illustration I created myself of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, depicted in a dress featuring her signature polka-dot pattern. The motif echoed the visual language of the collaboration and served as the creative kickoff for the event.

Live illustration for luxury brands and boutique events

All portraits were created on-site in ten to fifteen minutes using ink and watercolor on high-quality DIN A5 watercolor paper. Guests were able to watch their illustrations take shape in real time and received a personalized work of art that captured their exclusive visit to the store in a special way. The combination of handcrafted illustration and personal interaction made the drawings an emotional part of the shopping experience.

Custom fashion illustrations as an exclusive gift for customers

Once completed, the illustrations were presented in high-quality Louis Vuitton portfolios. Live illustrations create lasting value for luxury brands by combining exclusive collections with a personal experience. The project demonstrates how artistic portraits enrich brand activations, tie in with current campaigns, and provide guests with a personalized keepsake to take home.
